Buttermilk Sour Cream Ranch Dressing

When I was little we always got pizza from a well-known semi-fast food restaurant in Albuquerque, NM called Dion's. 

If you have visited or live in NM then you may even know Dion's. 

In my opinion, their food has gone WAY downhill and I won't touch it now, but when I was little I LOVED it. 

I remember going to my best friend's family's home for dinner one night. 

They were serving pizza from Dion's... and they did something that I could have never imagined, they were dipping their pizza in ranch dressing. 

My mind was blown! 

From then on every piece of pizza I ate was married with ranch dressing. 

Decades later when I finally woke up to what is in our food, my relationship with ranch dressing was terminated. 

Every bottle of ranch I found had horrible oils and MSG.... and many other things that I would never put into my sacred temple, where I lived... my body. 

THEN a few months ago I was sent a bottle of Secret Garden Magic Salt... and well it changed my life. 

There are SO many ways to use it in so many savory dishes, dressings, and food creations! 

The flavor reminded me of ranch dressing... it was at this time that I had to create my favorite pizza dipping sauce from scratch. 

So I thought about it and decided that I would not only make it to be delicious but nutritious as well! 

I love using fermented milk products. My tips are to always buy dairy in organic and pasture-raised form. SO important! 

For many who have problems with dairy, fermented dairy can sometimes be tolerated well... it all depends so if you try this recipe, start slow and listen to your body. 

In this recipe, I combine organic and whole milk sour cream with organic pasture-raised buttermilk. 

I always have these two fermented milk products on hand and personally, my body handles them beautifully! They also contain probiotics so there's that too! 

Okay enough chitter-chatter, let's do this! 


  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise, I love Primal Kitchen or Chosen Foods Avocado Mayo
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced or pressed
  • 1 tbsp + 2 tsp  Secret Garden Magic Salt (or use 2 tbsp. of dried ground onion and increase salt!)
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons dried dill
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped fresh chives 
  • 4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice


  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk well. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Chill until ready to serve. Dressing thickens up as it chills.

    The dressing will keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. The garlic flavor will grow stronger the longer it sits, so you might want to cut back if you're planning on making it in advance.
  2. Serve on salad, with homemade pizza, veggie crudites, or just use a spoon! 

My goal is to create and share food that not only tastes good but is good for you! Just remember that no two people are alike so what works for me, may not work for you. 

Be mindful of how food impacts your body. Allow your awareness and intuition to guide you to consume the food that nourishes your beautiful soul home... and don't stress too much about it either!
